Singing, La la dee dee, I’ll show you my Earth Soul

My sister is a middle school teacher in San Diego. This is a poem one of her students wrote. I think it is so beautiful, I just had to share it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

More Than A Dream by Brigitte Santos

Once upon a dream

I saw Mother Nature smiling at me.

“What a kind and caring Earth Child,” she said to me.

“If only I had more Earth Children like you.”

I said, “I know what I can do.”

I’ll spread my love for the earth

To all my brothers and sisters

So they can be Earth Children too!”

Singing,

“La la dee dee da da da,

Hear my Earth Voice.

La la dee dee da da da,

I’ll show you my Earth Heart.

La la dee dee dum dum dee,

I’ll show you my Earth Soul.”

So I traveled across the land,

Visiting people as I go,

Sharing my ideas and my love,

Saying, “I have some ideas for you.”

“The world has become one big dump, a huge litter box.

Here is some stuff you can do.

You can recycle empty bottles and used paper.

You can reuse some of the them too.”

“You can spend more time outside.

So turn off that TV,

Get up,

And exercise.”

“You can spend less time in the shower,

Turn off the sink when you’re brushing your teeth,

So you can conserve water,

So the earth can smile too.”

“You can walk short distances to get where you need to.

You can ride a bike if you want.

Avoid using cars as much as possible

So you won’t pollute the air.”

Singing,

“La la dee dee da da da,

Hear my Earth Voice.

La la dee dee da da da,

I’ll show you my Earth Heart.

La la dee dee dum dum dee,

I’ll show you my Earth Soul.”

I wake up smiling, saying,

“How real it all seemed.”

Then I thought to myself,

“Can it be more than a dream?”

    The Mirror of a Soul

As the wind slowly dies and the lake has the eerie
look of a mirror and the boat is leisurely drifting
I am thinking of my life till now,
how it has been not unlike the lake today,
the wind, although unkind at times
is necessary to fill the sails and move the vessel
    along to a distant destination,
it has taken me to places unknown
but essential for my life to grow and be fulfilled
Now as I gaze into the depths of the water,
made clear by the dying of the wind
    I become conscious that
I am looking at the mirror of my soul,
    unaffected by turmoil,,,,,,,, peaceful,,,
Being alone is not a bad thing after all

I also liveaboard… sailing British Columbia coastline for past 3 years. I do this for all of your reasons Theresa. You will find kindred spirits along the way (and a sense of isolation/loneliness as well). For me I just could not be part of the trainwreck now happening. Does anyone really think that this mass marketed/brainwashed…largely ignorant, don’t really know enough to give a damn mass human anthill really has a hope?
